Celebrating Mothers

01 May, 2024 50
Dianna with her sons

For about 18 years now, I’ve associated the month of May with Mother’s Day. While I always celebrated my mom with handmade cards in grade school to jewelry when I got older, it was always just a special day to celebrate her. However, 18 years ago I was pregnant for my first Mother’s Day (although some may say I wasn’t a mother until the next year when my first child was actually outside my womb). But now I just sort of associate the whole month of May as the Month of Moms!

Hopefully The Chill Shop has been on your radar, and you were able to join us for our workshop last week where we made bracelets that could be given as Mother’s Day gifts. We do have a couple of workshops coming up before Mother’s Day that you may want to consider as well. We will be making Wire Wrapped Rings on Saturday (5/4/24) and Wine Glass Charms on Wednesday (5/8/24).

I realize that not all of our readers are local, so coming to one of our workshops may not be feasible. We do have a new 2024 Mother’s Day Collection that is released today that you can choose from. And we are also offering a limited time discount on our prior Mother’s Day Collection (if you are reading this after that promotion is over I’m sorry!).

I also realize none of our products we sell is for everyone, so here are some other ideas of ways you can celebrate your mother this year.

1. Personalized Gifts

a. Custom jewelry with meaningful engravings (like the names of her children or a significant date).

b. A custom-made family portrait or a photo album highlighting cherished moments.

2. Thoughtful Acts

a. Prepare breakfast in bed with her favorite dishes.

b. Take over her daily chores for the day, allowing her to relax and enjoy some downtime.

3. Quality Time

a. Plan a family outing to a place she loves, like a botanical garden, museum, or a scenic hike.

b. Host a family game or movie night with her favorite films and snacks.

4. Relaxation and Pampering

a. Book a spa day for her to indulge in massages, facials, and relaxation.

b. Create a homemade spa experience with bath bombs, scented candles, and soothing music.

5. Heartfelt Words:

a. Write a letter or card expressing how much she means to you and recounting fond memories you share.

b. Record a video message from all the family members, sharing their love and appreciation.

6. Special Experiences

a. Enroll her in a class she's been interested in, like cooking, painting, or pottery.

b. Arrange a surprise event, such as a virtual meet-up with distant family members or friends.

7. Subscription Services

a. Gift her a subscription box tailored to her interests, such as books, gourmet foods, or beauty products.

b. If she enjoys reading or listening to audiobooks, a subscription to a service like Audible could be perfect.

8. Flowers and Plants

a. Deliver a bouquet of her favorite flowers or a plant that she can nurture and grow.

9. Donation in Her Name

a. If she's charitable, make a donation to her favorite cause in her name.

Remember, the most important part of Mother's Day is showing appreciation in a way that feels genuine and meaningful to your mother. It's not about how much money you spend, but the thought and effort you put into making the day special for her.

I would like to also extend my heartfelt condolences to those that no longer have their mothers with them. While my mother is still alive and lives in the same town as me (for which I am grateful for), I do know the feeling of loss at this time. I was so very fortunate to have a wonderful relationship with my mother-in-law, Happy. The loss is still relatively new as she passed in 2022, and we had her burial on Mother’s Day that year. I miss her very much.

For those of you that do not have good memories or relationships with your mothers, you can take this opportunity to cherish and praise whomever was the guiding light for you in years past or today. In the end, it’s always good to show acknowledgement to those that provided strength and support to you in your life journey.

Celebrate your mothers (or special people) this month with the loudest of voices! Moms certainly do a lot to make all our lives easier, so spend some time thinking about how you can honor her on this special day.

Until next time….

Dianna
